The Wapakoneta Electric Department duties include calls for service, respond to outages, maintenance of substations and the power distribution system, street lights and traffic signals in the city.

During 2002, the department was recognized by American Municipal Power-Ohio, Inc. (AMP-Ohio) for "No Time Loss Due to Work Related Accidents". Safety continues to be a priortity in the department.
